Parents

Being a 'Good Sort' Parent

An important factor for us as well as our students here at HPSS is ensuring that all spectators and parents are being a 'good sort', and there are a few key points to do so.

Show support: Your child can't do sport or active recreation without your support. Being supportive doesn't have to mean you watch every practice, it also doesn't even mean attending every game. But it does ask for your support behind the scenes, asking how their sport/activities are going and ensuring that they are getting the best out of their experience.

Provide them with feedback (positive, constructive and yes sometimes critical): Talk about their games and how they went. Sentences such as "great performance today' or "tough game today, I though you played really well' often go along way. And if you're not sure what to say, sometimes it is easier to let the child take the lead in this one. The most productive feedback is often both detailed and positive.

Be a role model: This is the key one and is important both on and off the field. Being a supporter on the side line, it can sometimes be easy to get caught up in the game. Here at HPSS we pride ourselves on being respectful not just to our teams but to other teams and officials as well. A big part of this will start with you. Sometimes the ref, coach and player will make a mistake. However, this it is all part of the process, so please remember, everyone is there to learn, to challenge themselves and to have fun.

Communication

Here at HPSS we have several means of communication to ensure all studnets and whānau are aware and updated on current or upcoming opportunities as well as any changes to the weekly schedules.

KAMAR is where we post notices about upcoming events and opportunities for sport and recreation registrations. Students should aim to check these notices daily. This is also one of our main means of sending out our sports emails. The schools contact information can be found in here

Heja is a free app that is used for all essential and urgent communication within sports teams. All parties involved should be apart of their teams group. Draws and training schedules will be posted on Heja, and there is also a chat function for parents to communicate transport options. If you have not made an account, you will need to download the app first front he link above.

The school uses social media platforms (Instagram/Facebook) to post regular sport updates, draws, results and to recognise achievements. We recommend that our students, their whānau and our wider community follow our accounts to keep up to date with all HPSS sport information.

To access all current registrations forms please follow the link here or in our Instagram bio to get to our link-tree page.

We hope that this provides a useful summary for students, as well as their whānau on how to find relevant sporting information. Please follow along and support our teams as they represent HPSS over the course of the year.

Registrations

Our registrations are done through google forms - these can all be found on our link-tree account here.

Registrations are shared either via our social media account or through email depending on the sports or recreation activity.

Fees and payments

Sports fees are available on each sports page and can be paid through the KAMAR online Parent Portal or through the kiosk in the school reception.

We operate a 'Pay before you Play' policy, fees will need to be paid before the start of the season or tournament. If full payment of sports fees will create financial hardship, the school has payment options to support this process.

Sports fees include:

  • Entry/registration fee into their sanctioned sport through either an entity or CollegeSport

  • Van Mileage (dependent on code)

  • Equipment (balls, safety gear, etc)

  • Uniform hire charge
